Artificial intelligence (AI) will play an increasingly important role in human life in the near future. In order to meet the increasing demand for AI, conventional computer chip architectures must be rethought and computer speed and power consumption drastically reduced. This is where the technology developed by AiML, a spin-off of Forschungszentrum Jülich, comes in: Computing operations are performed on a neuromorphic analogue chip for edge AI applications, eliminating bottlenecks in digital logic and external storage and reducing power consumption by a factor of 100+. Target markets for the AiML chip include robot assistance systems and autonomous driving.
