The Aachen-based start-up Layer Performance develops and distributes intelligent slicing software for creating three-dimensional machine paths for all material-extruding systems in the field of additive manufacturing. The software addresses the problems of conventional additive manufacturing, in which consecutive two-dimensional layers are applied, resulting in rough surfaces and low component strength. Layer Performance‘s non-planar slicing software enables the 3D printing of components in unprecedented quality. Components with smooth free-form surfaces and significantly improved mechanical properties can be produced while reducing material and energy consumption. By printing directly onto existing components, the gap between traditional mass production and 3D printing processes is bridged.
