Batch #6
Category: Production & Process Engineering
rewafe has developed a novel process for recycling and purifying silicon that uses much less energy and has a lower CO2 footprint compared to the current state of the art. The core of the process is a fully integrated process that includes the pre-treatment of scrap, a series of ultra-purification steps and crystal growth. The technology can fully recycle silicon waste or materials containing metallurgical silicon. Laboratory scale tests Laboratory tests have shown that the rewafe process consumes only a fraction of the energy required compared to the prior art, with a yield of over 95%. rewafe will initially focus (5 years) on the production of high-quality, fully recycled polysilicon for solar cell production, and later address the provision of high-purity polysilicon for the semiconductor industry.
