Combustion pollution causes 7 million premature deaths annually and emits soot particles (black carbon), a major driver of global warming. Current monitoring of black carbon is expensive, inaccurate and mostly inaccessible to developing countries, which inhibits progress in monitoring potential health threats and measures to decarbonise society. The Wuppertal-based schnaiTEC GmbH is developing an affordable, real-time, accurate and non-invasive optical measuring device for the precise and specific monitoring of soot particles from combustion processes. Target markets include Environmental Monitoring Stations worldwide.
